“Pivot!”

I’ve been almost overwhelmed with creative ideas recently. So far, it’s resulted in a single song. It’s not finished, yet. It seems the more I learn of the process, the longer it takes me to produce. I guess this means no more songs created in a single day.

It’s probably for the best. I’ve assigned myself a strict budget regarding future purchases of equipment for music production. It’s low for now until I learn how to use what I’ve already got. I added another Pocket Operator; Tonic. It’s the best one due to extra capabilities over the previous versions.

I purchased a microphone. It’s the first I’ve bought that wasn’t intended for talking shit while playing World of Warcraft. I also window shopped, (and got sticker shock over a professional studio version for vocals.) I went with an inexpensive USB type. (I know too little to elaborate, but will post updated photos when it arrives.)

I couldn’t find one that resembled the mic Stevie Nicks used when recording In Your Dreams. I’m assuming the price would make me cry, so I didn’t spend too much time on it. I’m pretty sure for my skill level, I made the right choice. Heh. (The mic built into my Mac mini probably would have sufficed, but it’s mounted under my desk.)

I haven’t seen Black Panther yet. It sucks, but I can’t handle that much stimulation. I haven’t even seen the new Star Wars film for the same reason. I have to wait for the Blu-ray so I can pause as needed. Fortunately, the soundtrack is all that and a box of animal crackers.

I’ve been listening to Pray For Me by The Weeknd, featuring Kendrick Lamar. I love it so much, I created a playlist with just that song, and I’ve been listening to repeatedly for days. The Weeknd’s voice is fantastic. It sounds great on all four of the headphones I’ve tested, including my Bose QC35’s.

He’s nice to look at, too. I downloaded an app that shows the lyrics to whatever song I listen to on Spotify. Finally, no more getting busted singing the wrong lyrics. Plus, songs make a lot more sense. 😂 This song resonates with me on a few levels. Mostly as a veteran. It’s beautiful and says what I couldn’t find the words to express.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

I’m always ready for a war again
Go down that road again
It’s all the same
I’m always ready to take a life again
You know I’ll ride again
It’s all the same (ooh, ooh, ooh)
Tell me who’s gon’ save me from myself
When this life is all I know
Tell me who’s gon’ save me from this hell
Without you, I’m all alone

Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I’ll spill this blood for you, hey

I fight the world, I fight you, I fight myself
I fight God, just tell me how many burdens left
I fight pain and hurricanes, today I wept
I’m tryna fight back tears, flood on my doorsteps
Life a livin’ hell, puddles of blood in the streets
Shooters on top of the building, government aid ain’t relief
Earthquake, the body drop, the ground breaks
The poor run with smoke lungs and Scarface
Who need a hero? (Hero)
You need a hero, look in the mirror, there go your hero
Who on the front lines at Ground Zero? (Hero)
My heart don’t skip a beat, even when hard times bumps the needle
Mass destruction and mass corruption
The souls are sufferin’ men
Clutchin’ on deaf ears again, rapture is comin’
It’s all prophecy and if I gotta be sacrificed for the greater good
Then that’s what it gotta be

Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I’ll spill this blood for you, hey

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I’ll spill this blood for you, hey

Just in case my faith go, I live by my own law
I live by my own law, I live by my own
Just in case my faith go, I live by my own law
I live by my own law, I live by my own

I think the words are brilliant.  It’s an excellent consolation prize for having to wait to see the film.  I’m off to continue reading, The Wise Man’s Fear, by Patrick Rothfuss.
